Woolfe Street Playhouse (DT) Gets A New Act

As you were scarfing down your children's Halloween candy or telling your friend you're only having one more drink, it probably hit you that there are only 2 months left in this year. Now, you are probably frantically trying to figure out how to savor these last two months. Luckily for you, we saved the best shows for last.

First, we have Moose Kick, See Water, and Little Bird at a swanky venue known as Woolfe Street Playhouse in Downtown Charleston. Woolfe Street Playhouse was originally built in 1914 and spent half a century as The Meddin Bros Meat Packing Company. By the 1980s, The Meddin Bros Company closed and the building was left empty for a while. However,  The Village Repertory Company came to the building's rescue, and with the help of Mrs. Meddin the old meat packing building transformed into the beloved Woolfe Street Playhouse we all know and love today. The Playhouse officially opened in December of 2012, and at 17,000 square feet it caters to multiple events including the one on November 11th featuring Moose Kick, See Water, and Little Bird.

Moose Kick is a five piece southern rock / funk band out of South Carolina. The band began during the winter of 2013 and since they spend their days touring, writing & practicing to effectively share their music with the world. Since releasing their album 'Blue Room Revival' in October of 2014 with producer Trevor Maron, the band has taken their talent to the road touring the eastern half of the country routinely.

See Water is the love child of reggae and punk rock. This up-and-coming band from Charleston, SC will take your ears on a roller-coaster ride through laid-back jams and hard-hitting rock riffs. Their style is similar to that of a mosh-pit on the beach at sunset. If their music was a cocktail, it would be a long island iced tea; at first you think, “There’s no way you can mix all of that together,” but sure enough, you take a sip only to find that it’s delicious and intoxicating.

See Water has been proving themselves in all their unorthodox glory at The Music Farm and Charleston Pour House, and venues throughout the east coast and the USVI, while performing alongside acts such as Badfish: A Tribute to Sublime, The Hip Abduction, Fear Nuttin Band, and Sun-Dried Vibes. See Water has released their debut EP, entitled 'Diluted Acoustica', and quickly began work on their next project. Their first full-length album 'Hit The Moon' is to be released later this fall with the first single, 'Echo', leading the way.

"When you see a body of water, whether it's calm or violent, it makes you feel something, and that's what we're here to do."

Little Bird, hailing from Annapolis, MD and calling Charleston, SC home for one year now, tours throughout the eastern half of the country. They blend surf rock, jazz, and Americana into a high energy killer live show. In 2015 & 2016 the band played & headlined festivals such as Bayfunk, Pink Moon, Silopanna, Doah, EastPortaRockin' and more. Along with sharing stage on show bills with names like G. Love & Special Sauce, Pressing Strings, Long Miles, Fortunate Youth, and many more.

Help The Dogs Save The Kids

Help us kick off our 4th Annual Homecoming & 28th Anniversary concert on December 28th at Charleston Music Hall by joining us on December 27th at Music Farm for The Super Goo Jam. The Super Goo Jam will kick off the spectacular event for the Blue Dogs and their friends by having the party of the year with multiple bands and dancing to celebrate the end of the year and to help raise money for The MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children's Hospital and Press On Foundation for pediatric cancer research. Following The Super Goo Jam is Blue Dogs 4th Annual Homecoming and 28th Anniversary concert on December 28th at Charleston Music Hall. The Blue Dogs have been performing together for over 25 years and perform up to 100 shows a year. This year, the Blue Dogs, an Americana band will have their 4th Annual Homecoming and 28th Anniversary concert that will benefit the MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children's Hospital and Press On Foundation for pediatric cancer research. This is a special charity event that has had special appearances in the past by some of Blue Dogs dear friends such as Darius Rucker, Drivin N' Cryin, and Danielle Howle. Last year, at the 3rd Annual Homecoming and 27th Anniversary concert, the Dogs raised $50K for MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children's Hospital & Pediatric Cancer research thanks to the support of Tito's Vodka, a variety of local sponsors, and donations of ticket holders, as well as a generous match by an anonymous donor. This year, we hope to surpass last year's amount and we can only do that with your help. So, we are calling all Dog People to get your tickets now and come out to this superb event on December 27th and 28th, to raise money so that the doctors at MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children's Hospital can find a cure for cancer that affects children.

Rockin' The River with The Dubplates--July 28th

What? Can this be true? The Dubplates are back?! Yup, you heard that right. The Dubplates are back and better than ever, but this time at Rockin' The River at Riverfront Park this Thursday at 5:30pm. The Dubplates, a reggae/dancehall riddim band born and raised in Charleston, draws much of its identity from the diversity of both its members and its fanbase. Performing with anywhere between seven and ten members, the Dubplates are a combination of traditional Jamaican Patwah and Lowcountry pride. Charleston native Dave "Big Hair" Brisacher started the band with his business partner "Daddy" Brady Waggoner back in 2002 as Dub Island Sound System. Somewhere between 2007 and 2008, the band brought in a full horn section, a few more vocalists and percussionists, and became the Dubplates. They have been the backing band for great names such as Tanya Stephens, Zumjay, and Future Fambo. So, come on out to Riverfront Park on Thursday, July 28th gates at 5:30pm and show starts at 6:30pm and enjoy great music by The Dubplates and a tasty dish and drink from one of our many food trucks and our wine/beer garden. This is a FREE show with FREE parking thanks to the gracious people at City of North Charleston, Icebox, and Ear For Music.

Don't forget to join us next week for another Rockin' The River with The Dave Matthews Tribute Band on Thursday, August 4th at 5:30pm.

It's Time To Get Funky with Super Deluxe at Rockin' The River on July 21st

Are you ready to get down and funky this Thursday to some of your all time favorite songs? If so, then we have you covered! We present to you Rockin' The River with Super Deluxe, Charleston's premiere party band, this Thursday, July 21st at 6:30pm. Super Deluxe is led by founder, lead singer and saxophonist, Wilton Elder. He started the group in 2008 with the goal of being the area's ultimate cover band, and a long list of satisfied clients would say he has accomplished just that. Super Deluxe is ready to jump-start your weekend with some of the greatest hits from the 20th and 21st century. They have a plethora of amazing songs such as "ABC" by The Jackson 5, "Bennie and The Jets", "Can't Stop the Feeling" by Justin Timberlake, and "Kiss" by Prince. But, in order to enjoy this fun-filled night, you will have to come out to Riverfront Park in North Charleston to see which groove-infused songs they will play for you on Thursday, July 21st doors at 5:30pm, show starts at 6:30pm and goes until 9:30pm.

Don't forget to join us next Thursday for more Rockin' The River with The Dubplates.

Party at the Point featuring Dangermuffin and Trongone Band

Aaaaand we're back with another awesome week of Party at the Point. Thanks to everybody who came out last week despite the ominous looking weather report- Friday the 13th was filled with luck for all of us and we were so excited to have our sunshine along with some amazing performances from BYOG and Dead 27's.  This week we're stoked to welcome Dangermuffin and The Trongone Band to the Charleston Harbor Resort & Marina. If you're not already a fan, here's some information to help you become one. See you there!

Dangermuffin

Easy, breezy melodies and soul-shaking grooves radiate from this genre-bending roots trio. Dangermuffin brings thoughtful tunes that are both heartfelt and truthful. Their haunting harmonies and go-with-the-flow vibe invite listeners to kick back, relax, and be consumed by the ethereal rhythmic backbone and inspiring messages Dangermuffin has to offer. Lyrically, they evoke themes of self-discovery, ancient knowledge, and true awareness, all within a unique and casual approach.

The Trongone Band

Rapidly gaining momentum with a sound that falls perfectly between southern Rock ‘n’ Soul and Americana Jam, The Trongone Band is turning heads and making an impact on the east coast music scene. Formed as a family band by brothers Andrew and Johnny with father John Sr. on bass, The Trongone Band enlisted much sought-after keyboardist Ben "Wolfe" White and quickly began packing various venues around Richmond, VA. With the addition of Wolfe, they entrenched their footprint on the city with a Thursday night residency at Cary Street Cafe, pushing the popular music room to maximum capacity for two straight years.

Spreading their musical wings, it wasn't long before The Trongone Band procured a devout fan base and began making their name in neighboring cities, including sell-out shows in Blacksburg and Harrisonburg. Recently the band brought on award-winning bassist Todd Herrington to solidify their touring lineup. Herrington adds a crucial dimension of deep pocket groove and funk to the already seasoned unit.

Come join us in paradise this Friday evening! The gates will be open at 5:30pm.

6:30p-7:30p: The Trongone Band

The River City Dixieland Jazz Band

Formed in Charleston in 1997, River City  is a dedicated group of professionals who specialize in the presentation of traditional American Jazz, "N'Orleans style".  The "Holy City" can now say
that it has that spirited sound that's rarely heard out of New Orleans...real Dixieland Jazz!  Guests can sing to familiar tunes like "Ain't She Sweet", "Bill Baily Won't You Please Come Home", and of course they can try their luck dancing to the city's most famous tune,  "The Charleston." The band's rendition of Louis Armstrong's "Hello Dolly" is always a crowd pleaser as well as "Muskrat Ramble", "Sweet Georgia Brown" and their traditional red-hot closer "When the Saints Go Marching In."

Mark Bryan to join Radney Foster in serenading the lowcountry

Mark Bryan may have risen to fame playing guitar for Hootie & The Blowfish, but his dedication to the Charleston music scene on every platform imaginable has made this fact a simple line item on a resume packed with accomplishments.  When Mark isn’t teaching class to arts management students at the College of Charleston, (a program that he helped create,) he is co-writing music, producing albums, lending background vocals, guesting with other artists and acting as a mentor to students who want to break into the industry. So for those of you even mildly familiar with this man’s ambition and commitment to the Charleston music scene, it won’t come as any surprise that Mark has graciously agreed to accompany Radney Foster at the Woolfe Street Playhouse this February the 26th to make what was already going to be a most spectacular evening even more special.

Radney Foster's Anticipated Return to Charleston

One of the coolest things about the live music experience is the way you get to know an artist through seeing them perform.  Music fans try to replicate this through watching concert videos on youtube or listening to soundboard recordings of their favorite artists, but there are some things that you just cannot experience without buying a ticket to the show.  Radney Foster is a prime example of one of these performers.  If you ask anybody who has seen him perform, the first thing they will tell you is how amazing of a storyteller he is, both in his honest lyrics and in the way he speaks about his songs during the concert experience.  Foster has written some of the most prolific folk songs that the genre has ever seen, and have been recorded by Gary Allan, Sara Evans, Keith Urban andJack Ingram.  But his penned works for others do not outshine his own commercial successes; his first solo album produced four consecutive Top 40 hits and he would have nine others over the next decade, including "Just Call Me Lonesome" (#10, 1992) and "Nobody Wins" (#2, 1993).  So those are just a few of the reasons why we are so excited to share this musical evening with all of our friends in the lowcountry.  You can find tickets here and RSVP to the event on Facebook here.  Mark your calendars for February 26th, y'all! If you aren't familiar with Radney's tunes, take a listen below.
