Party at the Point featuring The Dave Matthews Tribute Band

We can't thank you guys enough for coming out to support live music and making this a Party at the Point season to remember. Our favorite part about Friday nights is to see all of you having such a blast at one of our favorite events of the year. We certainly are lucky to live in a place with so many people who love music and places like the Charleston Harbor Resort & Marina to enjoy it.

This week we are thrilled to be welcoming The Dave Matthews Tribute Band for their 12th year in a row playing Party at the Point. They always bring an amazing vibe and we can't wait to celebrate the weekend with all you guys while singing along to our favorite Dave Matthews jams. Here's some information and videos to get you nice and familiar with all you have to look forward to.  See you Friday!

The Dave Matthews Tribute Band

Their name says it all: The Dave Matthews Tribute Band. Many go to their live shows with reservations, high expectations, and the burning question, "Do these guys sound like the real Dave Matthews Band?" Almost always the answer is, "Yes!"

As Rick Grant of Entertaining U in Jacksonville, FL wrote, "The Dave Matthews Tribute Band turned out to exceed its billing as a quality improvisational band that uses Dave Matthews material as themes to improvise. Clearly, this distinguishes them from the other so-called tribute bands. The band is exceptionally tight and produces a solid groove over which the players improvise with hot chops."

Hailing from Chattanooga, TN, the Dave Matthews Tribute Band is the only nationally touring tribute to the Dave Matthews Band. This 6-piece ensemble strives to pay homage to their famous counterparts by matching the excitement, energy, intensity and intimacy of a DMB live show.

"We have so much respect for DMB and what they've been able to accomplish," says lead singer Ryan Clifford. "As fans, we love getting together with others to celebrate and give tribute to DMB and their music."

The Dave Matthews Tribute Band has worked hard to bring musical expertise and an energetic stage presence to remake and provide fans with a true 'DMB experience'. "The whole basis of the band is to put on a musical play," says Clifford. "We try to recreate the experience you may get from the real band."

While most fans never experienced a live DMB show before they became the platinum-selling artists they are today, the Dave Matthews Tribute Band prides itself on giving audiences this opportunity at intimate venues across the country.

Beyond mastering the DMB sound and the relentless touring, what separates the Dave Matthews Tribute Band from other cover bands is their passion, love, and respect for DMB and their music. That is what makes you come out of one of their shows saying, "Yeah, they really do sound like the real Dave Matthews Band."

The fun begins this Friday at the Charleston Harbor Resort & Marina with the gates opening at 5:30pm. Mark your calendars and bring your friends!

Party at the Point featuring Dangermuffin and Trongone Band

Aaaaand we're back with another awesome week of Party at the Point. Thanks to everybody who came out last week despite the ominous looking weather report- Friday the 13th was filled with luck for all of us and we were so excited to have our sunshine along with some amazing performances from BYOG and Dead 27's.  This week we're stoked to welcome Dangermuffin and The Trongone Band to the Charleston Harbor Resort & Marina. If you're not already a fan, here's some information to help you become one. See you there!

Dangermuffin

Easy, breezy melodies and soul-shaking grooves radiate from this genre-bending roots trio. Dangermuffin brings thoughtful tunes that are both heartfelt and truthful. Their haunting harmonies and go-with-the-flow vibe invite listeners to kick back, relax, and be consumed by the ethereal rhythmic backbone and inspiring messages Dangermuffin has to offer. Lyrically, they evoke themes of self-discovery, ancient knowledge, and true awareness, all within a unique and casual approach.

The Trongone Band

Rapidly gaining momentum with a sound that falls perfectly between southern Rock ‘n’ Soul and Americana Jam, The Trongone Band is turning heads and making an impact on the east coast music scene. Formed as a family band by brothers Andrew and Johnny with father John Sr. on bass, The Trongone Band enlisted much sought-after keyboardist Ben "Wolfe" White and quickly began packing various venues around Richmond, VA. With the addition of Wolfe, they entrenched their footprint on the city with a Thursday night residency at Cary Street Cafe, pushing the popular music room to maximum capacity for two straight years.

Spreading their musical wings, it wasn't long before The Trongone Band procured a devout fan base and began making their name in neighboring cities, including sell-out shows in Blacksburg and Harrisonburg. Recently the band brought on award-winning bassist Todd Herrington to solidify their touring lineup. Herrington adds a crucial dimension of deep pocket groove and funk to the already seasoned unit.

Come join us in paradise this Friday evening! The gates will be open at 5:30pm.

6:30p-7:30p: The Trongone Band

7:45pm-9:30pm: Dangermuffin

Party at the Point featuring Dead 27's & BYOG

Party at the Point season is underway, and the last two weeks have been nothing short of incredible. What better way to say "bring on the weekend!" than with your friends, families and amazing live music in the paradise that we like to call the Charleston Harbor Resort & Marina? This week, we're partying with local favorites, Dead 27's and BYOG. Here's the scoop:

Dead 27's

"...Creative and timeless music with impassioned veracity...a refreshing blend of song-craft and musicianship..."
Terry Adams, Charleston Magazine, May 2014

(First off- who can do Tedeschi Trucks justice like that? Nailed it!)

So a little bit about the band:

Sometimes the stars and planets align and things that can be difficult come surprisingly easy. Such is the case with the formation of Dead 27s. After playing a few casual gigs, the obvious chemistry could no longer be ignored. Since 2012, the band has been on a mission. Relentlessly making their way through the booming Charleston, SC music scene, the Dead 27s garnered the attention and praise of local media, calling them, "the exciting new band to watch" and fan support soon followed. In 2013, Dead 27s took home multiple Charleston City Paper Music Awards for “Song of the Year”, “Rock Band of the Year”, “Up and Coming Artist of the Year”, and guitarist Wallace Mullinax was honored with his second straight award as Charleston’s “Guitarist of the Year”. The band has since opened for Toubab Krewe, Patterson Hood, Col. Bruce Hampton, Orgone, Chris Robinson Brotherhood and shared the stage at festivals with many others. Their sound has been described as “a Southern blend of rock and soul”. In April 2014 and to much critical acclaim, Dead 27s released their 7 song debut, "Chase Your Devils Down”. In summer 2014, the band was honored to place in the top 24 for Vh1's “Make a Band Famous” competition. Although their sound comes from many different influences, the band has their focus on the future. Currently touring while writing and recording, the band continues to gain momentum as they spread their music across the country.

In current news:

  • Recording a new album in Fall 2015 with Grammy nominated producer and saxophonist for Galactic, Ben Ellman
  • 6 Charleston Music Awards received in 2014 for:
    • Rock Band of the Year
    • Song of the Year for "Don't Comfort Me"
    • Album of the Year for "Chase Your Devils Down"
    • Guitarist of the Year for Wallace Mullinax (3rd straight year)
    • Drummer of the Year for Daniel Crider
    • Bassist of the Year for Oliver Goldstein
  • Appeared on VH1's 2014 "You Oughta Know Presents Make a Band Famous" - Top 24
  • The band has opened for Chris Robinson Brotherhood, Patterson Hood, Col. Bruce Hampton and Orgone to name a few

If you're not already a fan, come prepared to buy all of their music after the show wraps up.

BYOG

BYOG is a 5-piece jam driven vehicle that currently resides in Charleston, SC. Since their reformation in the Spring of 2013, BYOG has hit the road regionally, covering most of the South East, sharing stages with the likes of Moon Taxi, EarPhunk, and the Heavy Pets, all in their short tenure as a band. Spotlight: Departure (The Ultimate Journey Tribute Band)

In preparation for this Friday's Party at the Point, we're going to tell you a little bit about our first headlining band. They call themselves DEPARTURE, and they can play your favorite Journey tunes better than anybody else in the game. After 7 years together, DEPARTURE has become the most respected Journey tribute band in the nation. DEPARTURE replicates the look, sound and feel of the original 80’s rock super group. The five band members are the original line up and have developed an amazing on-stage chemistry. These veteran musicians pride themselves on giving their audience an incredible high-energy, qualitative stage show from start to finish. Featured lead vocalist, Brian Williams, has an amazing singing voice flawlessly matching Steve Perry’s vocal range and movements, exactly. DEPARTURE also highlights the early Journey years, when Gregg Rolie was lead singer, featuring Joel Hayes on keys and lead vocals. In 2009, Joel was named "Best Keyboardist in Atlanta" for his work representing Jonathan Cain and Gregg Rolie. DEPARTURE performs over two hours with no break, highlighting all the hit songs that everyone knows and loves, to give the audience the true concert experience. Their performance is professional and highly engaging for their audience. Everything heard during their performance is live with no pre-recorded tracks used. DEPARTURE was voted “Best Local Entertainer” for 2011 and 2012 by Gwinnett Magazine. Performing approximately one-hundred shows annually, DEPARTURE brings the very best of Journey to audiences of all ages.  Check out what these guys can do below! Chatham County Line Recap

This past Thursday, we celebrated EFM owner Rob Lamble's birthday at the Woolfe Street Playhouse, listening to awesome tunes by local favorite Red Cedar Review and Raleigh Newgrass legends, Chatham County Line. We had been looking forward to this show for months and it was so much fun to see everything come together. The most rewarding part of our jobs is seeing all of our friends have a great time.  The night started off with Red Cedar Review, who majorly impressed everybody in the room. Among many highlights was this moment captured below:

After Red Cedar Review finished their set, Chatham County Line took the stage and started off by playing a very special Happy Birthday to Rob, in which everybody joined in.  When they began playing their music, jaws all over the Woolfe Street Playhouse dropped. The harmonies that CCL pulls off are otherworldly. It is safe to say that anybody who went in blind definitely left the show as a new and enthusiastic Chatham County Line fan. Here are a few of our favorite shots from the night:

Once the show was over, we had some serious celebrating to do. The EFM team & friends headed over to The Alley for a bowling extravaganza, and were shortly after joined by members of Chatham County Line and Red Cedar Review. We ate, we drank, we were merry and it was the perfect way to top off a lovely evening. Thank you so much to everybody who came out and supported live music! We love you all and can't wait to see you at the next one.

We could not do this without your support and spirit! We love working with our largest client Wild Wing Cafe on our largest event for the of the year.  City Market Savannah hosts (what we think) is the best party in town.  This year we featured Chuck Courtenay Duo, A Nickel Bag Of Funk, DJ Unieq of The Club Bullies, Liquid Ginger, Dave Landeo, The Steppin Stones, The Midnight City, Whiskey Run, Ellen Drive, Tokyo Joe, U-Phonik, and Lyn Avenue.  Everybody put on a great show! Needtobreathe classic

This is such a fun event for such a good cause and we're always blown away by how well it comes together. Thank you to all who participated in helping raise money for Palmetto Medical Initiative!

The intimate showcase before the tournament was awesome and the room looked beautiful! The Cedar Room at the Cigar Factory is such a versatile venue. It is always a great time seeing it come together.

The Post-Tournament show was also amazing! Thank you to all who helped make this event a huge success. We were so lucky to be joined by some amazing musicians like Matt Kearney, Switchfoot, American Authors and Need to Breathe.

Only at Last Band Standing can you battle it out with other local musicians who think they have what it takes to take home $100 in cold hard cash. Even the losers will be awarded with wings and beer, so everybody comes out ahead and us observers will have an amazing time watching it all unfold.  If you think you or a friend has what it takes to go head to head with other talented local musicians, send an email with your band details to LastBandStanding@wildwingcafe.com for your chance to win! (Or lose, if you can even count it as losing.)

The Woolfe Street Playhouse is the perfect space to experience the more intimate side of the concert-going world. They will be joined by local act Red Cedar Review for what is sure to be a night to remember. Tickets are $18 advance and can be purchased at the door for $20. Goodbye First Flush Festival

For 9 years First Flush Festival was a family friendly day celebrating the first harvest or “flush”of the tea leaves for the season. This annual event consisted of live music, local artisan vendors, a kids area, food trucks, drinks and of course TEA! The festival has played host to artists such as Robert Randolph and the Family Band, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, The Avett Brothers, Sheryl Crow & great home-grown Charleston acts like Stop Light Observations.

It has been a great 9 years filled with wonderful memories. Regrettably, we will not be continuing the tradition this year. We thank you for all the support.
